Nicholas SoterDr. Nicholas Soter is celebrated for more than five decades as an instructor and practitioner of dermatology. Consistently dedicated to informing the young minds of future medical professionals, Dr. Soter ensures through his own education and experiences that students receive the best available education. Since 1983, he has provided these services as a professor of dermatology at the New York University School of Dermatology. Throughout his work at this institution, he has served in roles of interim chairman and vice chairman of clinical affairs. Prior to teaching at NYU, Dr. Soter taught at Harvard Medical School and the Baylor College of Medicine. In addition to teaching at NYU, he is an attending physician at NYC Health and Hospitals, the Tisch Hospital and head and chief of service of the Charles C. Harris Skin and Cancer Pavilion. He has consistently lecturer for postgraduate medical courses at NYU. He has also worked as a rheumatologist and immunologist with Brigham and Women’s Hospital among many other roles.

Set on this path at an early age, Dr. Soter first earned a Bachelor of Arts from Texas Christian University in 1961. He continued at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center to receive an MD in 1965. Following this achievement, he completed an internship in medicine at Boston City Hospital and a residency in dermatology at the Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals.  From 1968 to 1969, he served as an assistant resident in dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Soter was a research fellow in immunology at Harvard Medical School from 1971 to 1973.

While pursuing his internships and residencies, Dr. Soter served in the United States Army. From 1969 to 1970, he was a captain in the army on the Ryuku Islands in Japan. In 1970, he relocated to Texas, where he rose to the rank of captain until 1971. In addition to his work, Dr. Soter is an accomplished medical writer and editor and maintains affiliation with a variety of organizations that aid in professional development and growth.
